Re-establishing the Integrity of Church-State Separation
Dawn Gilliard, BCAD -- The Towanda Unitarian Universalist Church will be hosting a series of three 1 hour seminars-discussions on church-state separation. These will begin on Tuesday evening, April 6th, 2004, at the Unitarian Universalist Church on Second Street, at 7:30. The second and third discussions will take place on the following Tuesday evenings. Clark Moeller will be the seminar leader.
This series of seminars address the issues of why reestablishing church-state separation in the USA should be on every citizensís short list for peace activism. Historically, religion has been both a source of great benefit to societies, and also it has been one of the primary sources of violence in the world. The United States has been relatively free of such conflicts because of its First Amendment protection of religious liberty based on church-state separation. Unfortunately, the erosion of our First Amendmentís guarantee of religious freedom is now well underway. The background of church-state separation, its current controversy, the effect it has on our democracy will be focuses of these discussion. More information, call Dawn Gilliard 265-8342. Thanks for your time, and we hope to see you there.
