Democracy Week 2022 will take place next week

The third annual Jersey Democracy Week will take place next week from Monday 26th to Friday 30th September.

It’s an opportunity to connect with newly elected Member States, in person and online, and for Islanders of all ages to engage with Jersey’s unique political system in a variety of fun and creative ways. In this context, islanders are invited to:

  • Meet their elected representatives at informal parish sessions or stop by for a casual chat with Brook Street-based Member States, Monday-Thursday, 12-2 p.m.
  • Enter the Island Views poetry contest and/or take part in The Big Wander quiz which launched in August and remains open until midnight on Sunday 25th September. The winners will be announced and the prizes awarded on Friday, September 30, at Place Royale
  • Sign up for a free guided tour of the House of States, led by accredited Blue Badge guides
  • Attend or tune in to our online “Meet the Members” Q&A session on Tuesday 27th to tune in and ask questions of elected officials
  • Follow the States Assembly on social media to learn more about the different member states in our “Meet the Member” video series and interact with educational content on the topic of democracy
  • Watch Jersey’s new Youth Parliament discuss their campaign issues for the year ahead

Additionally, Member States will offer a range of activities at schools across the island during the week, including Les Quennevais, Springfield, Samares, Beaulieu, Hautlieu, Plat Douet, St George’s and Le Rocquier.

Molly Jehan, Education Manager at the States Greffe, said, “We are so excited to announce this year’s program of activities. After the June election, our priority is to help Islanders of all ages connect with their elected representatives and understand how to continue to use their voice to influence the future of Jersey. All activities are free, with great contest prizes offered.
