BEIJING, Feb. 22 (Xinhua) — A senior Chinese official on Tuesday called for persistent efforts to develop people’s democracy as a whole and advance the rule of law in China.

Wang Chen, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and head of the China Bar Association, made the remarks during a keynote speech at a legal science forum.

Noting that people’s democracy as a whole is an important result of the CPC’s creative efforts, Wang called for efforts to make it broader, more comprehensive and more solid in practice. He said it was important for various institutions and national governance to fully express the will of the people, protect their rights and interests and stimulate their creativity.

People working in the field of law should redouble their efforts to study and publicize China’s general and legal systems, make full use of their relevant expertise, and come up with more high-quality suggestions, Wang said.
