Using a whiteboard, Ohio author and politician David Pepper posted a video to his Twitter account (below) describing “both sides of an epic struggle in America right now” . But each side is fighting for something different, “and that’s why one side wins.”
Pepper explains the “Elections vs. Democracy” battle in simple terms. Basically, some (Democrats) “see politics as a battle for elections”, while others (Republicans) “fight democracy itself”. And of course, if you “see the battle differently”, you are going to use a different set of strategies.
The Democratic Strategy for Winning Elections: Focus on Swing States and Federal Elections.
The Republicans’ strategy for tearing down democracy: going “much further” and fighting at the state level, across the whole dang country.
Pepper – whose book Laboratories of Autocracy calls on those who value democracy to wake up and smell the gunpowder – says that until the election side sees the big picture and learns to fight all over, “at the roots of democracy”, the camp of democracy in struggle (as in the fascists of MAGA) will always win.
