In a series of election campaigns focused on various political parties ahead of the 2021 local elections, Refilwe Moloto meets with Freedom Front Plus election official and MP Wouter Wessels to discuss his manifesto.

South Africa’s Fifth Party launched its manifesto with hundreds of supporters gathered in Parkview, Pretoria.

Under the launch slogan ‘stop the decline’, party leader Pieter Groenewald said Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) had been used to advance corruption

At the end of the day, we stand for equal opportunities for all. We defend the rights of minorities and recognize the diversity of communities, and this is the basis of our policies.

When we are in government, govern with other parties in a coalition, we will serve these interests, and ultimately our plans to improve service delivery, to stop the decline of the Cape Town metro, for example, will benefit the majority of all community members, all residents. Currently, everyone is suffering because of the wrong priorities and misappropriation.

He acknowledges that Cape Town, led by the Democratic Alliance, is the best managed municipality in the country, but notes that this is not exactly a high bar compared to poorly managed municipalities run by the ANC.

It is not a very high level.

He says things can be improved.

For example, why do we have an executive mayor in Cape Town? It is a lot of wasted money.
